About Dr. Parekh
Dr. Jai G. Parekh, known as "DrJ," is a co-founder of EyeCare Consultants of NJ (ECC-NJ), a renowned practice with over 50 years of history. He serves as the Chief of Cornea and External Diseases and the Medical Director of the Research Institute at St. Joseph’s Health System, NJ.
As a board-certified anterior segment eye surgeon, Dr. Parekh is a leader in ophthalmology, specializing in cataract surgery, corneal procedures, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. He founded the Center for Ocular Surface Excellence of New Jersey (COSE-NJ) and the Center for Interventional Glaucoma (CIG-NJ), which focus on treating ocular surface diseases and advancing laser and surgical glaucoma care. Dr. Parekh is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, where he contributes to the Cornea Service at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Parekh's commitment to education and mentorship is evident in his dedication to teaching colleagues, residents, and fellows. He completed his undergraduate and medical training with honors through Boston University’s Early Selection to Medical School Program. After his Chief Residency in Internal Medicine at the Lahey-Hitchcock Clinic (affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine), Dr. Parekh trained in Ophthalmology at Boston University School of Medicine, gaining experience at esteemed institutions like Boston City Hospital and The Children’s Hospital of Boston. He later earned his MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, where he also traveled internationally with the university's basketball team for the Ambassador Games.
Dr. Parekh’s innovative contributions to eye care have earned him recognition as one of the Ocular Surgery News (OSN) Premier Surgeon 300 Innovators in Refractive Cataract Surgery. He has been named one of the “Best Doctors of NJ” multiple times from 2019 to 2024. As a medical philanthropist, Dr. Parekh serves on the boards of The Glaucoma Foundation, The Lighthouse Guild, and St. Joseph’s Health, further demonstrating his dedication to advancing eye care worldwide.
